George tries to visit every season of the year but said winter runoff, ice melt and rain have now made the waterfall the biggest it will be all year. Ropes help adventure seekers get to the end where they find the magical waterfall and even old foundations in the area that hint at the area’s history.
While the waterfall is quite large, the trail to it is short and travels along a 1-2 km trail that starts off pretty easy but becomes steep as you descend to the falls. “It is pretty well known to locals, but someone coming from off the island or, you know, a different province, it might not be something that kind of pops up on their radar.” “It's not as well-known as the ones that are located in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park,” George said of the hike she will be part of with fellow ambassador Darlin Geldner. There will be 12 hikes taking place on Saturday through some of the most picturesque waterfalls on the island, some known and others many will newly discover. George will hike to Gairloch Mountain Falls (Black Brook) as a waterfall ambassador on Saturday as part of Destination Cape Breton’s waterfall weekend.
